  # Salvia building

We are building a new multifunctional building in Meilahti for our pharmacy and central kitchen operations. Construction will start in spring 2025 and will take around four years.

Our new construction being built next to the New Children’s Hospital will provide facilities for the key support services for HUS high-quality pharmaceutical and nutrition services.

The new construction project has been identified as urgent due to the existing outdated and technically obsolete facilities of the pharmacy and central kitchen, which do not fully meet regulatory requirements. The construction of new premises is essential to maintain our pharmaceutical, patient and occupational safety at an acceptable level. In addition, the clean rooms needed for pharmacy operations and pharmaceutical manufacturing are challenging and expensive to build in old premises.

## Central kitchen

The production kitchen plays a key role in the catering services for our patients and staff. We will provide modern food preparation and storage facilities and a new lunch restaurant in the new building.

In the new premises, we can streamline and automate the processes in the production kitchen. At the same time, our aim is to develop diverse and innovative local food and café services in our hospitals to meet the needs of patients and staff. The new premises will also house a Breast Milk Center.

## Production facilities for hospital medicines

We will build production facilities for our pharmacy operations that meet the requirements of the Finnish Medicines Agency (Fimea), such as clean rooms for pharmaceutical manufacturing and dispensing. In the new premises, we will also be able to ensure sufficient production volumes.

The main activities of our pharmacy are the supply and manufacture of hospital medicines. The new premises will enable us to centralize our pharmacy operations and streamline and improve the efficiency of our pharmaceutical delivery and manufacturing processes through automation. The premises will also include a community pharmacy for hospital medicines, from which, among other things, medicines in accordance with the Communicable Diseases Act will be delivered either directly to the patient or to the unit treating them, as well as facilities for clinical trials and appropriate storage, preservation, and processing facilities.
