Our goal is to ensure safe childbirth and a good childbirth experience for all. In addition to full term pregnancies, we handle very early term deliveries and various high-risk pregnancies. We are committed to the Baby-Friendly Initiative of WHO and UNICEF.

All childbirth services are located on the entrance floor of Women’s Hospital. Women’s Hospital has two complementary labor units: Luotsi and Aallokko. The facilities consist of delivery rooms, monitoring rooms, midwife's appointment rooms for postterm check-ups and fear of childbirth discussions, operating rooms, and a family recovery room.

The labor units in Women’s Hospital offer both medicinal and non-medicinal pain relief. Both units also have birthing pools. You can give birth in Labor Unit Aallokko if your pregnancy is full term and you have no pre-existing risk factors. In Labor Unit Luotsi, we attend to various high-risk pregnancies as well as full term pregnancies. Our midwife will tell you about the unit best suited for you when you arrive to give birth.

## Postpartum care at Women’s Hospital

After the delivery, you will transfer to a maternity ward or the Family Nest Hotel for further care. The renovated maternity wards in Women’s Hospital have several family rooms that we offer to both first-time mothers and those who have given birth before. It is also possible to go home directly from the labor unit.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Saari, which is located in immediate vicinity of our labor units, treats infants who need special monitoring. We use the Couplet Care model, where the family is allowed in the intensive care unit to care for their baby.

## Women’s Hospital prenatal classes and video tours

Welcome to our prenatal class! At the class, a midwife from the Women’s Hospital and a public health nurse from a child health clinic (neuvola) explain the different stages of childbirth, pain relief methods, and what the first days with a newborn are like. The classes are held online via Teams.
